The Sikkim Manipal University was established in 1995. It was first government-private initiative in the region of North-East India renowned by University Grand Commission of India. It is run in corporation between Manipal University and Government of Sikkim. This university also constitutes two other universities viz. Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Science (SMIMS) and Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT).
