About Chennai
Chennai, which is formally known as Madras, is the capital city of the State Tamil Nadu. It is the fourth largest metropolitan city of the country. The city is situated in area of about 180 Sq. Kms. Despite of heavy British Influence Chennai has manages to preserve its tradition and culture. All major centers are here at Chennai and this city is well connected to all major cities of the country via Air, Roads and Railways besides being situated at seaport. It is far less populated and polluted if you compare Chennai with other major town of the country.

Chennai is the fourth largest city of the country and it’s about 350 year’s old city which is the gateway to enter south.
The history of the city is quite interesting. Chennai is located between two rivers Nellore and Pennar Rivers of Cuddalore. Earlier, it was also known as Madras Patnam. In the 2nd century Chola, family at Kanchipurram by Tondaiman Ilam Tiraiyan ruled the capital province. It is believed that Tondaiman was subdued by Kurumbas and took over Chola family completely.
After Illam the Chola Prince Ilam Killi ruled the region. Chola dominance was put to an end by Andhra incursions under the king Pulumayi II. They appointed a ruler to look after Kancheepuram region. Bappaswami is considered the first ruler Pallava to rule Kancheepuram region.
