Sikkim Manipal University has a joint venture between the government of India and Manipal Educational Group. It began its inception in the year 1995 and was the first government-private initiative in the region. The core ideology of the university is to edify the masses of nest-east India. The University Grants Commission recognised the Sikkim Manipal University under the consent of government of India.
The Sikkim Manipal University has two institute - Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences (SMIMS) and Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT).
