Introduction to IGNOU

IGNOU or Indira Gandhi National Open University was founded in 1985. Its headquarter is situated in New Delhi, India. The University was named after one of India’s former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. Currently it is the largest University in the world.  By means of a distance and open system, it imparts higher education to various segments of the Indian society.

Masters in Business Administration (MBA) Programme at IGNOU

The MBA programme at IGNOU comprises of 21 courses. It is divided as:

• 11 Courses part of the PGDIM (Post-Graduate Diploma in Management) mentioned in the prospectus.

•  5 specialisation specific courses.

• 2 courses which are compulsory.

• Choice of 1 elective course out of the given 5 courses. 

• One project course which is equivalent to 2 courses.

Criteria for Eligibility

• Graduation with minimum 50% marks in any discipline for the General Category and minimum 45% in the Reserved Category.

• Applicant should clear the OPENMAT which is conducted by the University twice a year. 

• Those applicants who have successfully cleared CAT, MAT and state level tests by other MBA institutions are also eligible. 

Eligibility for Foreign Students

• Applicant should have a valid student visa till the completion of the course.

• Courses with limited seats are not open to foreign students.

Fee Structure

University charges a fee of Rs. 700 per course. This includes the examination fee, the study material cost and cost of counselling. This needs to be paid during the time of admission.   

How to Apply

Applicants have to purchase the Student Handbook and Prospectus. This is available at the Registrar, IGNOU, New Delhi, as well as at all Study and Regional Centres. One can order it by post or also download it from www.ignou.ac.in which is the university website.
